Initial Consultation
This is the first visit with Dr. Trotta. You will need to come 10-15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, or print off the patient information sheets, fill them out at home, and bring them in with you, along with your insurance card (this is the best option and will get you in to see the doctor more quickly). If you have seen Dr. Trotta in the past, be aware that we must have an information update every calendar year, so if you have not come in this year, you will need to fill out new paperwork (even if your information has not changed).
During your visit, Dr. Trotta will ask you about your general medical history, as well as some specific questions about your vein symptoms and history. He may perform a physical exam as well, focused mainly on your legs. This will take about 15 minutes. After this, he will suggest that you schedule a venous duplex ultrasound for your leg(s), also called a doppler, and an appointment to come back and discuss ultrasound results and treatment options with him.
Duplex Ultrasound
The ultrasound is done right here in our office. A technician comes in on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:00-6:00. The ultrasound is very similar to the type of ultrasound done during pregnancy, only this one will be on one or both legs. He will ultrasound all the way up the leg. You may wear a skirt/shorts that will allow access to the upper leg if you choose. The ultrasound will allow the technician to see your veins and the blood flow through them, and to determine if you have venous reflux. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes for one leg, 30 minutes for both legs.
Ultrasound Results
This appointment is scheduled about a week after the ultrasound is done. The doctor will have had the chance to receive the report from the ultrasound technician and to determine your recommended course of treatment. He will explain what your treatment options are to you and answer any questions you have. You may also watch a video about the Closure procedure at this time. The appointment takes about 10-15 minutes.
For sclerotherapy patients:
Sclerotherapy can be scheduled for any time during normal patient hours. Each session is 20-30 minutes long. They are usually scheduled at 11:30 and 4:30. See the sclerotherapy information page and Frequently Asked Questions for more details about the procedure.
For Closure patients:
After the ultrasound results appointment, we submit your information to your insurance for pre-authorization. We will call you when we hear back from the insurance company to schedule your Closure. When we call you, we will schedule all of the remaining appointments at that time. We will mail you a sheet that has all of the appointment dates and times as well.
