The VNUS® Closure® procedure is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins and is performed here in our office.
During the procedure, which is done using local anesthetic, ultrasound is used to mark the leg. Then, using a very small incision, a catheter is inserted into the diseased vein and the vein is heated up using radiofrequency energy, which breaks down the vein walls and closes the vein. The catheter is then withdrawn from the leg, sealing off the vein and finishing the procedure. The blood that was previously unable to flow back up the leg through the diseased vein is rerouted through healthy veins and the symptoms that were caused by the pooling of blood in the leg may be alleviated.
